Future Phones Tip – *Read if you’re thinking about buying the Atrix HD: If you’re looking for a new phone and only have $99 or less to spend then this is the phone to get…however, realize in the long run of the 2 year agreement you’ll be paying the same price as the Galaxy S3 ($199 or less) minus only $99. Meaning your monthly bill of…lets say $60 x 24 months = $1,440 + $99 (atrix hd). So really you need to think long term and compare the Atrix HD at $1,550 to the best phone (Galaxy S3) at $1,650.
We recommend buying the Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X over the Atrix HD.
Atrix HD Review round up
Let me sum up the reviews…this phone is great, it’s about the same phone as the Galaxy S3 and HTC one X except two things:
1) The RAM is only 1GB vs 2GB in the S2
2) The battery is getting about 50% the run time you get on the other high end smart phones.
Pros
- Fast processor brings great top end performance
- Great overall specs
- Top build quality
- 4G LTE
- Android 4.0+
CONS
- Battery life is only 5.5 hours! Ouch
- Camera is not as good as the Galaxy S3 or other top end smartphones

We knew the Atrix 3 was coming, however it looks like Motorola decided to name the new version of the Atrix the Atrix HD instead of continuing with the Atrix and Atrix 2 name path. This makes sense I guess since the higher end phones need an HD 720p screen to compete and the Atrix HD basically says it’s an HD screen in the name.
For some reason Moto posted the Atrix HD on their site for a little while but it seems to be gone at this time…seems like it was an accident. And yes, they even included the specs while it was online.
It will be running Android 4.0 at launch.
Atrix HD Processor
Surprise it has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor like all the other high end smartphones this year (galaxy S3, HTC one X, RAZR HD). What is a bit surprising is it only has 1GB of RAM…the rumors were 2GB…so it has 50% of the Galaxy S2 RAM which is probably not a huge deal to the average user.
Atrix HD Screen Size
The Atrix HD screen size is 4.5″ and it’s a LCD with “ColorBoost”. This puts the screen size in line with all the big boys.
Atrix HD Camera
Atrix HD camera is an 8MP, which is pretty standard and even the Galaxy S3 has an 8MP camera. Sure there are some phones coming out with higher MP cameras like the Droid RAZR HD (13MP) but keep in mind higher megapixals doesn’t necessarily mean better pictures…it 100% means larger file sizes and that you can’t save as many photos on your phone’s storage. They’re saying the this camera has zero shutter lag!
Atrix HD Battery
Unfortunately the Atrix HD has a very average battery of 1780mAh which is just about the range that every smartphone has except the Droid RAZR MAXX and the upcoming Droid RAZR HD which have 3,300mAh batteries and can actually last all damn day!
Atrix HD Storage
The Atrix HD has 8GB of built in storage and can handle a 32GB microSD card. (You can get a microSD card for around $20 typically). You can check prices and reviews at Amazon here.
